Service Description

Since 2006 I have given my short "Introduction to Barefoot Running" philosophy classes to thousands of runners all over the world. It's been an amazing journey. I have learned many things along the way and it is my privilege to share some of them with you. Santa Barbara is the perfect place to practice barefoot running, and when barefoot is not enough protection, sandals do fine too. My method of coaching is all about paying attention to how running FEELS in a fully connected body. My basic techniques seek to train the foot and body to learn how to run as effortlessly as possible, as connected as possible, as light and smooth as possible. We will also learn about breathing techniques while running to moderate intensity and improve efficiency. IMPORTANT TO NOTE: This style requires little or no shoe to master; indeed, the foot alone is the ideal shoe when the conditions are right. Master the fundamentals of barefoot running. It's all about learning how to "tune-in" to the instrument known as "your body" and regaining connection to the "original equipment" = YOU. Mastering barefooting fundamentals is a key to longevity in fitness. Gaining barefoot proficiency will be useful to you everyday of your life for the rest of your life, and easy to share with others. We will work quickly with a steady pace in order to gain as much experience in the shortest possible time -- HOWEVER at the beginning we will learn where YOU are in YOUR overall-foot-health-fitness estimation. IMPORTANT: I am not a foot doctor. You should arrive with functioning, on-the-road to healthy free feet in order to master the skills I want to share with you. With my method you will quickly BUILD CONFIDENCE in finding the ideal running mechanics and "flow-state" movement patterns that work for YOU. By learning how to "tune-in" to the body, we aim to learn how to move more fluidly. Fluidity and balance in all its forms seems to engender health and healing. Finding a way to bring what we learn in our running practice into our everyday life has its own rewards. This running exercise philosophy seeks to regain primal health and happiness through the simple joy of moving well in the open air in bare or sandal-clad feet.
